This small semi-evergreen South African bulb has intensely colored bright red-orange flowers. In mid-spring these flowers rise up from the the erect and narrow one foot long strap leaves and present themselves in a profuse display of color that is followed throughout the summer by a more sporadic bloom. Plant in sun or light shade at the coast and light shade inland. Requires moderate water and reasonably well drained soils. Although it is recommended that one withholds water towards the end of summer to allow for a short resting period, we have found that in mild climates that this bulb remains evergreen and does seem to need this drying off period. A great plant for a large shallow pot.
