Erythrina x bidwillii in the San Marcos Growers garden |
|
One of our favorite Coral Trees. This very decorative small coral tree is a hybrid between Erythina crista-gali from South America and Erythrina herbcacea from Mexico. Wands, to 4 feet long, of bright red flowers emerge from the branch tips from late spring through summer. Although most often grown as a large bush it can be trained up as a small tree. This cutting grown plant has proved more difficult than most Erythrina to propagate so availability has always been somewhat limited. If you only have a small area for a Coral Tree this should be the one you plant.
