Coreopsis grandiflora 'Sunray' (Coreopsis) - This semi-deciduous perennial (evergreen in southern California) produces mounds of bright green lobed leaves to nearly a foot tall by up to 3 feet wide. Golden yellow flowers are held on stalks to 18 inches tall from April through most of the summer. Plant in sun with moderate to ocassional irrigation. This is a selection of a very hardy plant native to the Great Plains of North America so it should prove hardy to well below 0 °F . 'Sunray' was the first perennial ever to win the European Fleuroselect Award in 1980. As with many perennials this plant will benefit from being divided and reset in the fall every one to two years. Cut back plants in mid winter in mild climates.
The information about Coreopsis grandiflora 'Sunray' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
