Melaleuca decussata (Totem Poles) - This is a quick-growing small multi-stemmed shrub with upright stems and slightly pendulous branch tips, typically grows to a height and spread of 6 to 9 feet but can be found in Australia to nearly 20 feet tall. The leaves are bright green to bluish, narrow, 1/2 inch long and oblong-lanceolate in shape; they are close-set to branches. The bark is brown and shredded. Lavender flowers appear in late spring through summer. This is a good plant to use as a screen or small tree. It will stand some neglect, and is frost hardy to about 20 degrees F.
The information about Melaleuca decussata that is displayed on this web page is based on research conducted in our nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We will also include observations made about this plant as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens that we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We also incorporate comments that we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they share cultural information that aids others growing this plant.
