Melaleuca linariifolia (Flax Leaf Paperbark) - This is a quick-growing, dense small tree or shrub to 30 feet tall by 20 feet wide. It has smooth and soft, dark green leaves to 1 1/2 inch long. In its juvenile stage the branches are willowy in appearance; at maturity the crown becomes umbrella-like. The white bark is soft, spongy and peels in strips. Small, white bottle-brush-type flowers appear in summer. It is hardy down to 20 degrees F.
