Agave parryi x palmeri 'Sonoita Vinyards' - An upright medium to small-growing rosette-forming succulent to 2 feet tall and as wide with upright olive-green lanceolata leaves with reddish brown spines - seems mostly solitary but suckering upon flowering. Flowers were not observed but the inflorescence was about 9 feet tall and branched. This plant was discovered growing in rows of Syrah grapes at 'Sonoita Vineyards' within the overlapping range of Agave parryi ssp. huachucensis and Agave palmeri and appearing intermediate to these plants. While visiting the type locality for Agave parry ssp. huachucensis during the 2009 CSSA conference in Tucson we were led to this site by Brian Kemble, who remembered finding this plant on a previous excursion. We received persmission to enter the vinyard by Mike Dupont, vineyard manager and found the plant in a row of Syrah grape where we collected a small amount of seed.

The information about Agave 'Sonoita Vineyards' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
