Ophiopogon japonicus 'Kijimafukiduma' (Silver Mist Mondo Grass) - This plant has narrow dark green foliage with a fine white variegation. A very slow growing plant, growing only a few inches tall and spreading slowly by tuberous roots and stolons with flowers in summer that are pale lavender color.

Best in shady locations in inland gardens but will take full sun along the coast. Water regularly. Cold hardy to 10-15° F. Use as a small-scale groundcover or accent plant at the base of rocks or ornaments. Good as a small companion plant in a container.

We have seen this plant or one that is VERY similar with the cultivar name 'Silver Mist' and have seen the Japanese name spelt as 'Kigimafurkidoma','Kijimafukiduma' and 'Kigimasfukiduma' - we just call it a nice plant. We grew this extremely slow growing but charming little plant from 1996 until 2008 and only gave up because its slow growth made it economically unfeasible to grow and sell at a normal price.

The information about Ophiopogon japonicus 'Kijimafukiduma' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
