Tradescantia pallida 'Pink Stripe' (Pink Stripe Spiderwort) - This variation of the popular trailing house plant is shocking it coloration is so bright. It has the same long, narrow pointed purple leaves along the thick herbaceous stems and the summer small pink flowers among the leaves as a href="plantdisplay.asp?plant_id=1560" target="_blank">Tradescantia pallida 'Purple Heart' but with bright pink stripes in the leaves.
Plant in light shade or part sun and water regularly to occasionally. The leaf color varies with amount of sun and water with the best color in the brightest light. Hardy and evergreen in frost free gardens but will freeze back in colder locations. We have noted some reversion to solid colored foliage so keep an eye on this and trim this out. This plant should prove to be an interesting groundcover or a hanging pot in a garden that can handle this color. This plant seemed to revert and sport off-colored foliage quite a bit so gardeners needed to stay overly diligent to maintain the showy foliage. This reversion problem became too burdensome even for us and we decided to not grow it after growing and listing for sale in 2011 and 2012.
