Passiflora vitifolia planted in San Marcos Growers garden |
|
This passion vine from Central America is evergreen and can grow 16-25 ft if given support.
As the species name "vitifolia" implies, the foliage of this vine is like that of the grape (Vitis).
The strong red flowers appear from late spring through late summer and fall. Plant this vine in full sun to
light shade. This is not a hardy vine, suffering when temperatures drop below 30 degrees F, plant in a near frost
free garden and water regularly from spring through fall. Often sold under the name Passiflora coccinea, which is
another Passion vine that has similar flowers
Why are these plants called ."Passion Flowers"?
