Santa Barbara is a Tree City USA with a long heritage of tree plantings and amazingly large specimens of many different species of trees that have been planted throughout the community. Many of these trees have made it into the Cal Poly San Luis Obispo maintianed California Big Tree Registry. The trees listed below are all on this registry, which means they are the largest known measured specimens of that species in California and many of them are also listed as national champions, which means they are the largest measured specimens in the United States. The links on each species will take visitors to the registry, which has information about the particular tree and pictures of it.
