Bambusa multiplex 'Golden Goddess' (Golden Goddess Bamboo) - A dense, graceful clumping bamboo that has a fountain-like form with arching narrow greenish yellow 1/2-inch-wide culms that reach to 6-10 feet tall holding contrasting small green leaves.

Plant in full sun to light shade. Hardy to 12 degrees F. An attractive bamboo of a manageable size that makes a good container plant and is also useful for screening.

Bambusa multiplex is native to China (provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Hunan, Jiangxi, Sichuan, Yunnan), Nepal, Bhutan, Assam, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and northern Indochina. The name for the genus comes from the Dutch word 'bamboes' or 'bamboo' that was a modification of Malay word 'bambu' and the specific epithet means "many folds" or "of many parts", presumably in reference to the many small leaves.

We grew this nice bamboo from 1989 until 2019 and only discontinued growing it to make room for plants that required less irrigation.

The information about Bambusa multiplex 'Golden Goddess' that is displayed on this web page is based on research conducted in our nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We will also include observations made about this plant as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens that we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We also incorporate comments that we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they share cultural information that aids others growing this plant.

Please note that after 46 years in business, San Marcos Growers will be discontinuing nursery operations by the end of 2025 and the property will be developed for affordable housing.
