Scabiosa columbaria is a widespread species found in grasslands, savannas, and rocky slopes from South Africa north to Ethiopia, northern Africa, Europe, and western Asia. The cultivar 'Pink Mist' is a color mutation from the propular Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue'. It was selected at Walberton Nursery in West Sussex, England, from a number of naturally occurring mutations of 'Butterfly Blue' and received US Plant Patent PP8,957 in October 1994, which has since expired. We grew this plant from 1997 until 2002.

The information about Scabiosa columbaria 'Pink Mist' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
