Correa pulchella (Pink Australian Fuchsia) – A low growing shrub 2 to 3 feet tall with a 5 foot spread with dense foliage of ˝ inch long elliptic leaves that are green above and gray-green below and has a long bloom season of the light pink flowers in profusion, winter through early spring. Plant in full coastal sun to part shade with occasional summer water – tolerates less frequent irrigation when grown in shade. It is tolerant of calcareous soils and does well in exposed coastal situations. It is hardy to about 20 degrees F. A great plant as an understory to larger shrubs and trees in a low water garden. This was one of the first Correa available in the trade when we first started growing it in 1987 and though we have added many other cultivars, this durable plant has remained a favorite of many. It differs from the other Correa pulchella cultivars we grow in having a lower more spreading habit and appearing more green than gray with smaller and lighter pink flowers. The name Correa honors José Francisco Correia de Serra, a Portuguese botanist. The specific epithet 'pulchella' is Latin for "beautiful". We got this plant originally from Wintergreen Nursery.
