Aloe 'Dhufar Rose' – A hybrid aloe with rosettes of short smooth toothless (inerme) recurved lanceolate leaves that are an olive green color that turns shades of red orange wen grown in full or part sun. In winter to spring appear the salmon-colored flowers on a foot long unbranched inflorescence that is very similar to the parent species.
Plant in full to part sun in a well-drained soil and give occasional to infrequent irrigation Full/part sun. Has proven hardy to 31° F and likely could take it a little cooler. A very interesting and attractive aloe with a unique form and foliage color
This hybrid was the result of a selection from seedlings resulting from open pollinated seed collected from our plants of Aloe dhufarensis in 2016. The plants of Aloe dhufarensis were originally grown from seed received from Brian Kemble at the Ruth Bancroft garden in 2010 that he collected from a hand pollinated garden plant. Our Aloe dhufarensis plants really did not grow that well for us and our thought was that our coastal California climate was too cool and different from the deserts of Saudi Arabian peninsula where this species grows, but this hybrid seems to thrive here.
