Nymphaea 'Fabiola' (Aquatic) (Hardy Waterlily) - This waterlily has green leaves with bronzy new growth and 6 to 7 inch wide peony to cup shaped flowers that are a clear pink with good fragrance. The plant will spread 2 to 4 feet across. This waterlily is very free flowering and is perfect for medium to large pools. It takes full sun and is hardy to 15 degrees F. Much confusion exists regarding synonyms for this plant and we are not absolutely sure of the true identity of our plant. Fabiola is an old waterlily cultivar that was hybridized in 1913 ( (Latour-Marliac) and sold in England for many years but synonyms that have apparently been misapplied include Nymphaea 'Mrs. Richmond' (Latour-Marliac, 1910) and the cultivar 'Odorata Luciana' (Dreer, c.1899) also known as 'Luciana' and 'Pink Beauty', have been sold as 'Fabiola' for many years in the US. We first purchased our plants in 1988 from McAllister Water Gardens.

The information about Nymphaea 'Fabiola' (Aquatic) displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
