Leucanthemum x superbum 'Ryans Daisy' (Shasta Daisy) - This is the outrageous white daisy growing along the side of the house in our demonstration garden. We received it as Chrysanthemum x superbum 'Ryan's Daisy' from Goodness Grows, a nursery in Georgia who described it as follows: "3-3.5' wide by 2' tall. Full sun/ part shade blooming July to August [this is later than most other Shasta daisies] Three- to three-and-one-half-inch white daisies on tall, strong stems. Thick dark-green foliage forms massive clumps in the garden. This exceptional daisy was selected for its habit and bloom period and shared with us by the Ryan Gainey [famed southern designer]" It is by far superior to any other Shasta Daisy we have evaluated. Leucanthemum x superbum is a group of old hybrids that resulted from crossing Leucanthemum lacustre with Leucanthemum maximum.
The information about Leucanthemum x superbum 'Ryans Daisy' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
