Euphorbia 'Big Yellow' (Yellow Crown of Thorns) - This succulent plant is a robust yellow flowered (technically bracts) form of the crown of thorns. It grows upright to about 3 -4 feet tall with thick spine-edged stems. It does well in frost-free gardens with good drainage. It is very drought tolerant. Protect from temperatures much below freezing (our plants have withstood 28° F for short durations). We received this plant from the Plant Conservatory, a Malibu California Nursery that closed its doors in the 1990's. We have never determined the actual cultivar name on this big beauty. Similar to Hummel's hybrid 'Giant Christ-thorn' but with yellow bracts. Great for large containers or in a succulent garden.
The information about Euphorbia 'Big Yellow' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
