Chamelaucium uncinatum 'Escondido Rose' (Geraldton Waxflower) - This is a sparse evergreen shrub with soft needle-like foliage that grows 4-6 feet tall with equal spread. The winter to early spring, five-petaled, dark rosy-purple flowers are among the largest of the cultivars that we grow. The new growth (leaves and stems) are red. Full sun. Drought tolerant. It is hardy to about 25 degrees F. This variety, long known in the California cut flower trade as M1, was given to us by Fred Myer of Escondido. We renamed it 'Escondido Rose' to honor this legendary horticulturalist.
This information about Chamelaucium uncinatum 'Escondido Rose' displayed is based on research conducted in our horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also will relate observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments that we receive from others and we welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share any cultural information that would aid others in growing it.
