Aloe 'Superman' - A large hybrid aloe with green lanceolate leaves that have a slight red-orange tint with age and have red teeth along the margins. In winter into early spring appear reddish tubular flowers tightly arranged as a spike atop stout 3 foot tall branching inflorescences. Plant in full sun and irrigate little to regularly - plants of both parent species are known to tolerate dry conditions but will look best and flower better with occasion irrigation. Foliage is likely hardy down to the low 20°s F but the winter flowers might be damaged below 25° F. These plants are known to be profuse bloomer and are the result of a controlled cross between Aloe cameronii and Aloe ferox 'White' that was conducted by Aloe hybridizer Brent Wigand at his home in Wildomar California. Brent has stated that this is the best hybrid aloe he has ever created. The foliage of the plants in this crop are very fairly uniform but there is likely some variability in flower color as these are seedling hybrids.
