Dietes butcheriana (Wide-leafed Dietes) - Strap leafed plant that grows 3 feet tall with broad shiny dark green leaves. The inflorescence is irregularly branched with white flowers that are slightly smaller than the fortnight lily ( D. vegeta) with a touch of yellow (nectar guides on outer tepals), orange (on the claws) and white on the style branches. Naturally found growing in the deep shade of the mist-belt forest areas of Natal. Flowers in spring and summer. Has proven hardy to at least 26 F in the understory within our garden.

The information about Dietes butcheriana displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
