Caryopteris x clandonensis 'First Choice' (First Choice Bluebeard ) - A soft-wooded deciduous shrub that will freeze back to the ground and then rejuvenate in the warmer months. In the midsummer, deep blue purple bell-shaped flowers emerge from very dark buds amongst the silvery foliage. The plant will grow to a round mound 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. Prefers full sun to part shade, moderate water. It is hardy to <15 degrees F. Originally bred by Peter Catt of Liss Forest Nursery in Hampshire, England and introduced through the PlantHaven program. It received US Plant Patent PP11,958, which has since expired.
