Colocasia esculenta 'Chicago Harlequin' (Aquatic) (Taro) - A striking new "elephant ear," with large soft leaves marked randomly with light and dark green. The stem of each leaf is vividly striped with cream and green vertical stripes. The giant green leaves of C. 'Chicago Harlequin' are each blotched with large lighter green random sectors. The highlight however is the tall 5' stems which are vividly striped with cream and green vertical bands. Spreads rapidly in very wet areas by means of above ground rhizomes and can easily grow as a pond or bog plant. 'Chicago Harlequin' was selected by John Joicus of the Brookfield Zoo in 1993. Very cold hardy but will die down in the winter when temperatures drop below 45° F. We never have had much of this plant to sell but because it is so ununusual we have left this entry in our database.

The information about Colocasia esculenta 'Chicago Harlequin' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources.
