Grevillea 'Cherry Royal' - A moderately fast dense-growing shrub to 2 feet tall by 3 feet wide with soft olive-green oval leaves and cherry red "spider" type flowers in spring and a scattered bloom at other times of the year.

Plant in full sun to light shade in a well-drained soil with occasional to only very little irrigation. It should tolerate inland heat and has been frost hardy to at least 20° F.

The genus name Grevillea honors Charles Francis Greville (1749-1809), a patron of botany, a very close friend of Sir Joseph Banks, and president of the Royal Society of London.

Grevillea 'Cherry Royal' was discovered as a seedling volunteer in 2001 growing on the grounds of the University of California Santa Cruz Arboretum where is was given the temporary name of Grevillea sp. - garden seedling 2001.289 and later named 'Cherry Royal' and was a 2012 UC Santa Cruz Arboretum Koala Blooms Australian Plant Introduction in 2012. We like this plant, but we found it hard to maintain nice looking in containers over summer in our climate and only grew and sold it for a couple years.

The information about Grevillea 'Cherry Royal' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
