x Mangave SMG Mix – A diverse collection of seedling Mangave plants with various spotted and colored foliage.

This seed mix resulted from the intentional crossing in 2019 of the unique x Mangave 'Bloodspot, thought to be a hybrid between Agave macroacantha and Manfreda maculosa, as the seed parent with the equally interesting small Agave nizandensis as the pollen parent. Meanwhile bees simultaneously carried on their own business crossing the x Mangave with a nearby flowering Agave filifera and it appears from the resulting plants that that the bees were the more successful.

Plant in full to half day sun in a well-drained soil and give occasional to regular irrigation. These hybrids are likley cold hardy to around 25° F and suitable to USDA Zones 9,10 and 11.

We offered these seedling plants for sale from 2021 until 2023 and made several selections we thought might be worthy for later introductions.

This information about Mangave SMG Mix displayed is based on research conducted in our horticultural library and from reliable online resources.
