Dianella caerulea Becca ['DCNC0'] - (Paroo Lily) - This 2-foot-tall perennial has weeping, strap-like shiny green leaves compressed into flat fans. In summer appear the blue to mauve colored flowers and are followed by attractive rich, translucent purple or cobalt-colored berries.
Plant in light shade to full sun in a well-drained soil. Give regular ot occasional water. Hardy to about 20-25 degrees F.
Dianella caerulea is found growing wild across the eastern states of Australia and Tasmania. The genus is named after Diana, the Roman goddess, of hunting and Queen of the woods and the specific epithet means "blued" or "blue-tinged" in reference to the flower color. This plant from Todd Layt of Ozbreed was marketed in the US by Celebrated Plants and later by Dig Plants, Inc. We grew this plant from 2004 until 2007.
