Anisodontea 'Elegant Lady' PP16,301 (Cape Mallow) - A rounded fast-growing shrub to 5-6 feet tall by 4-5 feet wide with dark green tri-lobed aromatic leaves and 1 1/2" wide magenta flowers. This newer Anisodontea cultivar has a similar flower color to our own 1994 plant introduction Anisodontea 'Tara's Wonder', but the flowers are wider (to 1 1/2" wide) and with denser and smaller foliage. As with other Anisodontea x hypomandarum (A. capensis x A. scabrosa) hybrids this plant blooms nearly year-round in southern California gardens.

Plant in full sun in a well-drained soil and water occasionally for best results - this plant is reasonably drought tolerant once established but is much more lush with more regular irrigation. Hardy to 20-25 F. Good for a small fast growing screening plant.

Anisodontea 'Elegant Lady' was introduced by Paul and Mandy Fick of New Plant Nursery in George, Eastern Cape where it has had PBR (Plant Breeders Rights) status since 2001 and received US Plant Patent PP16,301 in 2006 and was marketed in the US in the Proven Winners collection. We grew this plant from 2005 until 2006. The only Anisodontea we continue to grow is or own Anisodontea 'Tara's Pink' that we introduced in 1993.
