Arenga engleri (Formosa Sugarpalm) - This is a clumping palm with several short trunks that grow to 10 feet tall. The leaflets on the feather-like leaves are narrow at the base and grow gradually wider to the tip of the leaves. The leaflets with their silvery underside have several notches along the edges. Plant in full sun with regular watering. It can tolerate temperatures down to about 32 degrees. We sold this interesting palm at our nursery from 1993 unil 2007.
The information about Arenga engleri displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
