Pentas lanceolata 'Red' (Red Egyptian Star) - An evergreen shrub to 2 to 3 feet tall and wide. The emerald green, somewhat hairy, foliage is a good foil for the 4 inch wide clusters of small star-shaped red-colored flowers. Flowering occurs in profusion from spring through summer with some bloom nearly all year long. Prune in late winter to shape plant and deadhead flowers throughout the bloom season for continued rebloom. Use as a bedding plant, in the mixed border, in containers, or as a pot plant. Very attractive to butterflies. It is frost sensitive.
The information about Pentas lanceolata 'Red' that is displayed on this web page is based on research conducted in our nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We will also include observations made about this plant as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens that we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We also incorporate comments that we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they share cultural information that aids others growing this plant.
