Plant in full coastal sun to light shade in a well-drained soil, raised bed or keep in a container and water regularly. Protect from frost or bring under cover when temperatures dip near freezing - as a test we left a plant out this last winter and it faired quite well though we have had several nights at or slightly below 32° F.

Mandevilla Sun Parasol Giant Crimson originated from a cross made at Higashiomi-shi, Shiga-ken, Japan in June 2001. The female parent was the variety 'Sunmandeho' and the male parent was the breeding line M38-1. It was selected for its upright and vigorous-vining freely-branching growth habit, glossy narrow elliptic leaves, long flowering period and large red-colored flowers with imbricate petals. It was propagated vegetatively and grown in a pot trial from May to October 2004 in Japan and received U.S. Plant Patent 17,136 in May 2007. We have grown this showy plant since 2008.
