Leucospermum 'Spider Hybrid' (Spider Pincushion) - A large shrub to 10 feet across by 6-8 feet tall with nice salmon and golden-yellow pincushion flowers with red-tipped stamens in late winter to early spring.
It does best in the full sun with good drainage and is tolerant of moderate frosts once established. Prune prior to flush of growth in spring to maintain smaller size. It is a nice garden plant and great for cut flowers for the vase.
Leucospermum 'Spider Hybrid' is the result of a cross between Leucospermum tottum and Leucospermum formosum. This plant came to us from Protea grower Dennis Perry who did not know who bred it but we thought it a great plant and grew it from 2000 until 2021.
This information about Leucospermum 'Spider Hybrid' displayed is based on research conducted in our horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also will relate observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments that we receive from others and we welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share any cultural information that would aid others in growing it.
