Marrubium bourgaei 'All Hallows Green' (Green Horehound) - A dense wide spreading plant to 18 inches tall with lime green rough-textured leaves and small green flowers. Plant in full sun where it is drought tolerant and hardy to about 10-15° F Cut shrubby specimens back in spring before growth begins. It is generally untroubled by disease or pest and provides a solid low cover of an unusual color and texture. Hardy to 10 F. Native to Turkey into western Asia. We received this plant from California Flora Nursery in the 1997 labeled as Ballota 'All Hallows Green' and have sold it under this name ever since. We now note that in a 2006 meeting of the RHS Advisory Panel on Nomenclature and Taxonomy this plant has been determined to be a selection of Marrubium bourgaei var. bourgaei and not a Ballota at all. Dr A C Leslie, the Chair of the committee also questioned whether the this plant was a distinct selection and whether it differed from Beth Chatto's 'Gold Leaf'. Dr. Leslie further noted that the name 'All Hallows Green' predated 'Gold Leaf' and if actually the same plant, the older name should take precedence. For our 2007 catalog listing we changed the name to Marrubium bourgaei 'All Hallows Green'.
