Myrtus communis (True Myrtle) - This is a medium to large evergreen shrub that can reach up to 12 feet tall and wide but is usually kept smaller with pruning. It has attractive, small glossy green leaves and produces white, fragrant flowers in summer. The foliage has a pleasant odor when it is crushed. Plant in full sun to light shade in a well-draining soil. It is drought resistant and tolerant to moderate frost. It will survive temperatures below 15 degrees F. Our plants are cutting grown from selected plants.
This information about Myrtus communis displayed is based on research conducted in our horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also will relate observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments that we receive from others and we welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share any cultural information that would aid others in growing it.
