Hyacinthoides hispanica (Spanish Squill) - A bulb which produces narrow,1 inch wide, 18 inch long dark green leaves. In spring appear up to 12 nodding bell-shaped blue flowers in loose racemes atop a 20 inch tall stem. Plant in full sun to light shade. Keep moderately dry during summer dormancy. It is fairly hardy, thriving to USDA Zone 5 but also performs well in our coastal California garden. We grew this plant from 2001 to 2004.
The information about Hyacinthoides hispanica displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
