Dyckia 'Purple and Silver' - A terrestrial bromeliad with 18 inch wide rosettes of narrow purple leaves that have a silvery sheen and silver undersides. In early to mid spring appear the slightly branched 2 to 3 foot tall stems with bright orange flowers. Full sun. Little irrigation. Hardy to 15-20 F. We received this plant with a group of unnamed Dyckia forsteriana hybrids and have given this plant the name 'Purple and Silver' to distinguish it from others that we grow. Dyckia 'Purple and Silver' is similar to another that we named Dyckia 'Precious Metal' which has dusty silver purple leaves and unbranched flower spikes that appear mid to late spring.
This information about Dyckia 'Purple and Silver' displayed is based on research conducted in our horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also will relate observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments that we receive from others and we welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share any cultural information that would aid others in growing it.
