Lomelosia caucasica 'Fama' (Perennial Pin Cushion) - This perennial forms dense tufts of lance shaped, gray green leaves from which arises a beautiful display of many 3-4" wide intense lilac-blue flowers that are held tight clusters 2' above plant from late spring through most of the summer.

Easy to grow in full sun and well-drained (not acidic) soil. Water regularly. Hardy to below < 0 °F (USDA zones 4 and above). This is considered to be the largest flowering and most uniform strain of the Blue Pincushions. Makes a great cut flower in arrangements.

Scabiosa caucasica is native to the Caucusus Mountains , northeastern Turkey and northern Iran. The name Lomelosia is derived from the Greek word 'loma' meaning "the edge or the border" in reference to the membranous edge of the flowers. The specific epithet is a reference to it growing in the Caucusus Mountains. Although this plant is more commonly found under its older name Scabiosa caucasica, it was renamed Lomelosia caucasica in 1985. We have grown this plant since 1997.

The information about Lomelosia caucasica 'Fama' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources.
