Phormium 'Flamingo' (New Zealand Flax) - New Zealand Flax cultivar that grows to 2 feet tall with arching 1 1/2" wide leaves in shades of orange, rose, light green and yellow. Can tolerate fairly dry conditions (coastal) but looks best with occasional to regular irrigation. Hardy to 15-20 F. Possibly root hardy below these temperatures but with severe foliage damage unless protected. Similar to 'Maori Sunrise' but possibly smaller. The variegation is a little unstable and needs attention to ensure plant does not revert to a larger bronze flax. A very nice and showy plant for a potted specimen. This plant introduced into the US by Malanseuns Pleasure Plants in South Africa.
