Leucadendron 'Perry's Red' - Red-tinted foliage, reddish buds and bracts set apart this 3 foot tall by 3 foot wide shrub. It prefers full sun, regular watering and no hard frost. It does poorly in humid summers. It has a similar look as Leucadendron 'Safari Sunset' but the leaves are smaller and thinner and the plant doesn't get as tall.
Plant in full sun in a fairly well drained soil. Hardy to 20-25° F.
We received this nice Leucadendron salignum hybrid from Dennis Perry and grew it from 1996 until 2014. We only discontinued it because we had built up sufficient quantities of Leucadendron salignum 'Blush', which we felt was slightly nicer and had better name recognition in the trade.
The information about Leucadendron 'Perry's Red' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
