Nepeta reichenbachiana (Cat Mint) - This is a small low growing subshrub or perennial to 18 to 30 inches tall by up to 36 inches wide with broad, rounded, sage-green leaves. The lilac-blue flowers are held in 4-6 inch long clusters that rise above the foliage from mid-spring well into summer. Plant in almost any type of soil in full sun. It is hardy to 10-15 F. We received this plant as Nepeta reichenbachiana in 1997 from California Flora Nursery in Fulton, California. Some references have this name synonymized with N. racemosa or listed as a variety of this species but we have retained the name under which we originally received this neat little plant. We grew this plant from 1998 until 2008.
The information about Nepeta reichenbachiana displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
