Russelia equisetiformis 'Aurea' (Yellow Coral Plant) - Rush-like arching branches to 4-5 ft. long, with leaves that have been reduced to very small ovate leaflets. In spring and summer the tips of the branches are graced with bright yellow tubular flowers. Flowering can occur any time of the year but the flower buds drop off if temperatures are to cool. Plant in full sun to deep shade. Tolerates wind. Requires regular irrigation . Hardy to 25° F and can resprout after a freeze. Great for a large pot or used spilling over a wall. Can be trained up a trellis to make a taller more vertical plant. Prefers shade and moist soil. Not frost hardy. From Mexico south to Guatamala. Under the name 'Lemon Falls' this plant was awarded the Royal Horticulture Award of Garden Merit in 2012. We grew this yellow flowering form of Russelia from 1999 to 2004 and while certainly unique, it did not flower as well as the coral and red forms that we continue to grow to this day.

The information about Russelia equisetiformis 'Aurea' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant.
