Acer paxii (Evergreen Maple) - A slow-growing, evergreen tree to 30-40 feet tall with a dense, compact canopy. New pink tinged foliage emerges prior to the previous years foliage drops. In youth the foliage is trident shaped but mature more or less entire or slightly lobed with a long tail-like tip. The leaf is shiney green on upper surface with a gray cast below. Small greenish flowers are followed by attractive red winged fruit (samaras).
Plant in full sun to part shade. It has alarge root system that does best with regular irrigation making this a good tree for the lawn. Drought tolerant with age. Hardy to at least 20 degrees F.
There are old trees scattered about in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Our plants grown from seed from a large tree on Arboleda Road in Santa Barbara.
