Aquilegia chrysantha (Columbine) - Perennial. This is a large long-lived columbine with very showy yellow, irregular spurred flowers that tower above the foliage. Considered by some to be one of the most vigorous columbines for our climate. The plant is both mildew resistant and robust, reaching to 2-3 feet tall with the flowers to 4 feet. Plant in full to part day sun with average irrigation. Responds well to periodic pruning. This species is a parent of many hybrids found today.
The information about Aquilegia chrysantha displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
