Pentas lanceolata 'Nova' (Egyptian Star Flower) - A tender perennial or sub-shrub with an upright growth habit to 3 feet tall. It has dark green lance-shaped deeply-veined foliage and showy 3 to 4 inch across terminal clusters of pink star-shaped flowers. Flowering begins in late spring to early summer and can proceed well into fall. Flowers are self deadheading. Plant in neutral, moderately-fertile soil that retains moisture well in light shade or full sun (blooms best and plant is more robust in sun). Requires regular water throughout the growing season. Is evergreen in frost free zones or useful as a perennial or even an annual were winters are cooler. The large clusters of star-shaped flowers are very attractive to butterflies. The thick erect stems hold up well when cut and used in flower arrangements. This selection is vigorous and has shown good disease resistance. It is a 1999 Georgia Gold Medal Winner.
