x Mangave 'Man of Steel' PP29196 - A tidy small symmetrical rosette forming plant to just under 1 foot tall by about 20 inches wide with 7-inch-long quarter to half inch wide silver gray waxy sword-like leaves that are covered in small pin size purple spots, edged with tiny brown teeth and tipped by the same color flexible terminal spine. Multiplies well from the base of the plant before it ever flowers.

Plant in full sun to light shade in a relatively well-drained soil and irrigate occasionally. It has proven hardy to around 20° F but with speculation is might prove hardier and be useful into USDA Zone 7b. This plant is a 2016 introduction in the Walters Gardens MAD ABOUT MANGAVEŽ Collection bred by Hans Hansen. The patent description notes that this plant is the result a cross in the summer of 2011 between Mangave 'Bloodspot' as the seed parent with the narrow leafed Agave stricta as the pollen parent. It was granted U.S. Plant Patent PP29196 in April 2018. We offered a small quantity of this plant briefly in 2023 after our trial plant flowered and produced suckering plantlets.
