Festuca glauca 'Azurit' (Azure Blue Fescue) - A low growing evergreen clumping grass that grows to 12 inches tall with fine-textured blue-silver foliage. Plant in moist, well-draining soil and full sun (coastal); should be protected from very hot, direct summer sun inland as it may burn. Do not water excessively during the summer. Drought tolerant once established, but may turn brown in the hottest part of the summer. Festucas should be trimmed annually during cooler months to keep up a neater appearance. It is a very hardy plant, tolerating to USDA zone 4. This festuca is bluer and a bit taller than the other blue fescue we grow, Elijah Blue. It is a great border edging plant.
The information about Festuca glauca 'Azurit' displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
