Rhynchospora colorata (Aquatic) (Star Rush) - This evergreen aquatic plant is one of the few sedges having 3 to 10 pointed white and green "leaves" at the top. The "leaves" are actually large bracts that surround the less conspicuous inflorescence. Real leaves arise from the base of the plant. Star-rush is a sedge. Stems slender, triangular to round, 4 inches to 2 feet tall; leaf blades spreading, tapering to point, 4 to 16 inches long, to 1/4 inches wide; bracts leaf-like, usually 3-6, white with green pointed tips; inflorescence a dense cluster of small spikes; spikelets have several tiny flowers. Ideal for planting along seeping hillsides, ditches, pond edging or as a container plant for small ponds. Full sun.
The information about Rhynchospora colorata (Aquatic) displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
