Echinodorus x barthii (Aquatic) (Red Melon Sword) - Decorative and beautiful solitary plant. The leaves change color from red-black in the youngest leaves to dark green in the oldest. The color develops well when the light intensity is high and there are sufficient micro-nutrients in the aquarium. Thrives with a nutritious bottom and CO2 addition to promote vigorous growth. Flower stalks emerge in late spring into summer. The inflorescences are generally unbranched with white flowers of 3/4" to 1" wide. Foliage grows in a rosette style, reaching 8-10 inches tall and wide. Best situated in half day of sun. Cold hardy to 25-30° F.
The information about Echinodorus x barthii displayed on this web page is based on our research conducted in the nursery's horticultural library and from reliable online resources. We also include observations made about it as it grows in our nursery gardens and other gardens we have visited, as well how the crops have performed in containers in our nursery field. We will also incorporate comments we receive from others and welcome hearing from anyone with additional information, particularly if they can share cultural information that would aid others in growing this plant. |
